I try very hard to be environmentally conscious. I ran across a great alternative for disposing of our household trash, using oxo-biodegradable bags, because we don't compost.

From what I have read, during the manufacturing process, an oxo-bioodegradable additive is used. This additive is blended into the plastic during the extrusion process, so, it is less harmful for the environment. They're said to break down within 2 years time, which cannot be said about all plastics!

I particularly like the brand EconoGreen from Jig-A-Loo. Their new line of plastic bags are made from 100% recycled plastic, are 100% oxodegradable and 100% recyclable.
You can get more info about them there: http://www.jigaloo.com/ca/e_products_econogreen.php

I get funny looks when I use them at the store (except trader joes). But Publix, Target, and Wal-Mart employees look at me funny when I say I have my own bags. I just want to ask “Why are you looking at me like I am crazy? Your store SELLS them!!” My favorite part is when I bought a resuable green bag @ Publix and they put it in a plastic bag, needless to say, I was confused….if they only read your blog!

Great article, Chloe! Plastic bags are my pet-peeve... Did you know it takes over 1000 years for a plastic bag to begin to break-down and even then, it only breaks down into pieces and never fully degrades?

I recently wrote a post on my own blog outlining "8 Super Easy, Eco-Friendly, Earth Day Ideas," and am asking people to drop by and add their own ideas to the list. Why? I'd love for everyone to pitch in to come up with a total of 38 eco-friendly ideas in honor of Earth Day's 38th anniversary this year!

If you get a moment, I invite you to drop by www.inncuisine.com and share an easy, eco-friendly tip or two in the comments section of that post. I know you have lots of ideas and I look forward to reading some!

Also, congratulations on your Eco-Friendly Inn Award! That's a big deal and you should be proud!!
